| The History of Sabates Eye Centers
Sabates
Eye Centers are physician led, locally owned, professionally
managed, regionally oriented and patient centered. Sabates
Eye Centers constantly strives to meet the highest standard
of eye care in the greater Kansas City region. We always
take pride in taking personal care of each patient, so that
they do not feel like "just another number."
All of our physicians are certified
by the American Board of Ophthalmology. All of our physicians
are involved in teaching through academic positions in the
Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Missouri
- Kansas City - Truman Medical Centers. The eye care professional
is the key to the quality of care each patient receives.
No matter how sophisticated the technology, it is the experience
and skill of the eye care professional that will determine
the outcome. Since Dr. Felix Sabates established Sabates
Eye Centers in 1966, thousands of patients from across the
country have trusted our physicians with their eye care
needs. Thanks to our international reputation for quality,
our surgical team has been requested to test the latest
procedures and instruments before they are available to
other eye care providers. Our physicians carry the responsibility
of championing new techniques in eye care and instructing
other eye care professionals in all new and updated procedures.
Our administrative team is dedicated to creating and maintaining a solid business structure to support delivery of the highest quality care.
Our services are convenient
and accessible. We have twelve eye center clinics and university
locations in the greater Kansas City area: North
(N.W. Barry Road), East (I-291 and Highway 40), South
(College Boulevard and Nall and 75th and Mission Road),
South West (I-35 and 151st Street) and
Central (St. Luke’s Medical Center). In addition,
we have offices in Leavenworth, KS, Warrensburg, MO and
St. Joseph, MO.
Every thing that we do starts and ends with quality patient care. One critical measurement of quality is our patient satisfaction.
In the mid-1960's Felix
N. Sabates, M.D. (a Fellow at the Eye Research Foundation
and Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary
in Boston) was recruited as head of the Retina Services
and Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the new Eye
Department at the University of Missouri at Columbia, Missouri.
Dr. Sabates began traveling to Kansas City regularly to
supervise the residents and to monitor program activities.
In 1966, Dr. Sabates was appointed Director of the eye program
at what has become the University of Missouri-Kansas City
School of Medicine. At the same time, he began private practice
here in Kansas City which later evolved into Sabates Eye
Centers. Sabates Eye Centers quickly became one of the
most prominent medical practices in the region.
Since its inception in the mid
1960's, Sabates Eye Centers has always been considered one
of the most respected practices in the region. We have patients
from all over the region, country and globe that come to
have care at our centers. In 1992, Dr. Nelson Sabates joined
the practice and together Sabates Eye Centers has continued
to grow and expand over the years and touch the lives of
thousands of patients. This growth was built on top of the
foundation that patients are treated like family.
