Dr. Jean Hausheer completed her ophthalmology training at
Mayo Clinic in 1986. She specializes in advanced custom LASIK
and PRK procedures, CK (conductive keratoplasty), and advanced
refractive cataract procedures using multifocal implants and
Limbal Relaxing Incisions (LRI). Her refractive surgery experience
began in 1992 with radial and astigmatic keratotomy, following
mini fellowship training and certification. In 1995 she became
certified in VISX and Summit excimer laser systems for the
treatment of myopia, astigmatism, and hyperopia with PRK and
LASIK procedures in the following years as technology became
available. In 1998, Dr. Hausheer became a certified LASIK
instructor using Moria microkeratome systems, and actively
trains ophthalmologists in LASIK eye surgery. Dr. Hausheer
was invited by VISX to be a physician instructor for excimer
laser procedures, and completed that certification process
in December 2000. She is Director of Refractive Surgery at
the Eye Foundation of Kansas City since 1998, where she teaches
ophthalmology residents and community ophthalmologists in
refractive surgery. She completed certification in CK (conductive
keratoplasty) in 2003, and certified in Crystalens® accommodative
lens implant surgery in 2004. In 2005 she certified and trained
in both ReStor® and ReZoom™ multifocal implant lens
procedures. Dr. Hausheer also completed STARR phakic iol certification
for high myopic correction in 2002, which received FDA approval
in 2006.
Dr. Hausheer is an Associate
Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Eye
Foundation of Kansas City, University of Missouri Kansas
City School of Medicine (UMKC). She is past President of
the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, a fellow
of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American
College of Surgeons. In 2000 she completed gubernatorial
appointment by Mel Carnahan to the Missouri State Board
of Healing Arts as board member, chair of competency, and
secretary to the board. In 2006 she was appointed by Governor
Matt Blunt to the Missouri State Board of Healing Arts as
board member. She is also a member of the International
Society of Refractive Surgeons and Refractive Surgery Interest
Groups. Dr. Hausheer is councilor representing ophthalmologists
in the state of Missouri to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
She has served as Associate Examiner on the American Board
of Ophthalmology since 1994. Dr. Hausheer was appointed
Vice Chair to the American College of Surgeons Political
Action Committee in 2002 where she works on behalf of patient
safety and liability and tort reform issues in Washington
DC. She represented the American College of Surgeons at
the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York.
