Dr.
Felix Sabates received his ophthalmology training at the University
of New York, Downstate Medical Center and his subspecialty
training in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and
vitreous at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard
Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. He also received a
post-doctoral research fellowship at the Schepens Eye Research
Institute in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Sabates is Professor and past Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine. He is the founder of the Department of Ophthalmology, which was established in 1971, and the president of the Eye Foundation of Kansas City. Literally dozens of the region's ophthalmologists have been trained under Dr. Sabates. He has been very active in lecturing nationally and internationally, and has published numerous articles and book chapters.
Dr. Sabates received the Senior Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has received many other honors, awards and invited lectureships. He is past President of the Missouri Ophthalmologic Society as well as the Kansas City Ophthalmologic Society. Dr. Sabates is also one of the original founders of the Missouri Ophthalmologic Society. He is the Past-President of the Retina Society and Past-President of the Schepens International Society, two of the most prestigious organizations in the field of retinal and vitreous diseases. He currently serves as co-founder of the new Vision Research Center of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC).
Dr. Sabates is board certified, specializing in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous with a special interest in macular diseases. Dr. Sabates is the Founder of Sabates Eye Centers.
