Dr. Nelson Sabates received his medical training at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine. After an internship at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the Dean McGee Eye Institute, University of Oklahoma School of Medicine, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He received his subspecialty training in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, and a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr.
Sabates is a Professor of Ophthalmology, Chairman, Department
of Ophthalmology, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC)
School of Medicine. He is also the President of the Vision
Research Foundation of Kansas City. Dr. Sabates is also
the President and Chief Executive Officer of Sabates Eye
Centers, P.C.
He lectures both nationally
and internationally, and has authored numerous presentations,
articles and book chapters. Dr. Sabates is on the Editorial
Board and is also a scientific reviewer for several national
publications. He also is very active in clinical research
and clinical trials dedicated to treatments of retinal diseases.
He has held numerous leadership positions and served on
the board of directors for many institutions locally, regionally
and nationally. He is also the founder and co-director of
the Vision Research Center.
Dr. Sabates is board certified
and specializes in diseases and surgery of the retina and
vitreous with interests in advanced cataract surgery.
